Resting--ah!
Halloween 2009
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

We got home Saturday evening just in time to get on our costumes and head out for Halloween. Davin, of course was Spiderman! However, I was afraid at the last minute that he would not want to dress up because he started asking for a Batman costume. All went well though and he loved his costume. I kept calling him Spiderman and he would respond back, "It's just me Mom, don't worry." How could I worry when I had Spiderman around! Kyson was a pumpkin--the same one Davin was on his first Halloween (thanks to Grandma Crosby for hanging on to this costume--it has gotten lots of use!).

First we went to a Trunk-or-Treat that one of the little towns hosts every year. That was a lot of fun! Davin enjoyed playing with his friends afterward just as much as he enjoyed getting the candy! After that we stopped at a few friends' houses and then Daddy took Kyson home while Davin and I walked the block and went door to door! Something still fun about ringing doorbells!

By the way. Nicc went as a football coach (this satisfied Davin) and I was supermom (cape and all).

This house really was a little spooky, but they hand out BIG candy bars!!!
Too much time in the car!
On the way home from Casper Saturday morning Davin was busting us up with some of his comments. Some were just silly and others I wondered how in the world he could put that much thought into a comment that came out that quickly. I only remember a few:
Passing the rocks outside of Dubois--"Those are the coolest big rocks I ever seen in Wyoming!" The expression in his voice is what made this so funny! (He is on this kick about the fact that he lives in Wyoming and when he is and is not and what is and is not in Wyoming.)
I opened the bag of halloween candy just as we pulled into the valley and one of the box of Dots was empty. I commented that that was a rip off. A few minutes later Davin says, "I'm hungry for a rip off!"

Road Trip!
The Braves had their first Playoff game in Buffalo so the boys and I decided to tag along! First we stopped in Rock Springs to do some shopping, visit Grandma and Grandpa Sheckler, and stay the night. The next morning we got up and headed to Casper, yucky roads and all! We got there without any problems and surprised Granny and Papa (who thought they would not get to see Kyson until Christmas)! It was way too much fun! Davin walked in with a boquet of flowers (too big for him to hold so it about fell out of his hand) and said "Surprise guys!" We really did surprise them and Papa kept saying how it was the best surprise ever. While there we visited, Davin and Granny built forts and foam block towers, and Granny spent lots of hours holding Kyson!

Granny crocheted this blanket for Kyson! A big accomplishment for her very arthritic hands! What a treasure!

Papa has this tradition of getting each of his grandkids a teddy bear when they were born. He started with me, both of my brothers, and all of my cousins. Now the tradition continues with his great-grandkids. He puts a lot of time and thought into picking out the right bear. This is him with the bear he picked out for Kyson!
We took a quick time out from spending time with Granny and Papa to go up to the football game Friday night. It was perfect football weather and there were lots of Braves fans, however, the Braves just couldn't pull everything together and Buffalo was a tough team. The Braves lost 21-0 and ended the 2009 season. They had an excellent season and ended up doing very well after a rough start! Good job Braves!!!!

After the game we headed back to spend the night with Granny and Papa one more night before heading home for all of the Halloween activities. Davin woke up Saturday morning ready to go trick-or-treating so we practiced at Granny's door and she had a nice bag of treats ready for him.

Carving Pumpkins
Our carving pumpkins was kind of interrupted and ended up taking two days, one afternoon of Davin and I gutting them out, one night of Daddy and Davin carving batman, and a second night of Davin and I carving a jack-o-lantern named Spiderman!
I had planned to carve pumpkins Tuesday before Halloween but had a Young Women's presidency meeting. I figured the president would just excuse me so I called to tell her I was bailing to carve pumpkins (this was the only night we would be together before Halloween). She was really shocked and said they would manage. I felt really guilty because she seemed so disappointed that I wasn't going to be there. About 20 minutes later she called me back and said the meeting was a hoax, the girls were actually hosting a surprise baby shower for me and since all of the invitations had been sent out and food prepared they kind of needed me there. After that I felt even more awful! Anyway, Davin and I got started so he and Nicc could do some carving while I was gone. Nicc didn't get any pictures of them but Davin did not like gutting the pumpkin! He did, however LOVE carving the pumpkin. his idea of carving the pumpkin was poking it all over with the little poker to trace patters onto the pumpkin. Our pumpkins are covered with freckles!!! Davin insisted on a batman pumpkin so leave it to Nicc to figure it out. Nicc being a perfectionist sure pays at halloween, we usually have some pretty good pumpkins. I, on the other hand, don't do much more than a plain old jack-o-lantern. Davin liked helping me cut the teeth out of the other pumpkin. When we were done he asked what the pumpkin's name was and I mentioned Jack. He said, "No way, I think it is spiderman!" Everything is either Spiderman or Batman!

Bend-A-Whoos, Bend-A-Roos!
In case you have not seen the commercial, Bend-A-Roos are little wax strings that can be bent into any shape. Well, Davin has been eyeing these for months and Grandma Sheckler sent him a set in a Halloween package this last week. Davin had a great time playing with his wax strings and he kept repeating over and over, "Bend-A-Whoos, Bend-A-Roos!" the entire time he was playing and pretty soon I had 500 Bend-A-Roos around my living room (I am not exaggerating when I say 500-there were that many in the package and Davin had them ALL out)!
